Open
Water Diver
Here’s your chance to discover the thrills of Scuba Diving. Whether it’s
exploring the secrets of a local lake, close encounters with fascinating
colourful species in exotic corners of the world, or venturing through
hidden underwater caverns, you’ll find adventure and excitement on every
dive.
The PADI Open Water Course is the first level in recreational Scuba
Diving that will let you dive with someone else who has the same level
of training or higher, to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
The PADI Diver training courses are recognized in over 190 countries
worldwide and will be your passport to a world, that only a select few
are lucky enough to experience.
You will complete between five and six hours in the pool, this being
spread over a number of sessions at your convenience. It is here that
you will learn the basic skills involved in Scuba Diving. Once you have
mastered the skills required and become comfortable in the water, we
will show you how to use a dry suit ready for your training dives in the
open water.
Whilst attending the pool sessions you will have a small amount of home
study to complete at your own pace. You will have your own manual, which
is made up of five modules, at the end of each module is a small quiz to
complete, (just to gauge your level of understanding).
Then it’s out to the open water, to put all this training into practice.
There are four dives to complete over two separate sessions. We
generally use an inland dive site for these dives, this being the safest
environment for you until your confidence and excitement grows.
At Academy Divers we feel that it is better to train our students in a
dry suit, there are some additional skills involved in dry suit diving,
and these are built into the structure of the course.
You will be pleased to find that there are no hidden extra’s to be added
to the price of our courses.
Experience the Adventure and Excitement of being a qualified diver for
only.

Rescue
Diver
(If combined with Emergency First Response £325) (If combined with E.F.R.
and DAN course £350.00) This course is somewhat of an oddity, as it does
not involve a great deal of diving. It is designed to give you the
skills and knowledge to be able to deal with diving emergencies, should
they occur, and as such much of the course is taught on the surface. For
any qualified diver, the Rescue Diver course will give a superb boost of
confidence, as it provides you with the training needed should an
accident occur. It is a course you should consider once you are
confident in your own abilities, as it involves the process of looking
after others in need.
When looking at rescue in general, what marks this course out from
most is its concentration on effect rescues rather than a pedantic
drill. Each rescue situation is unique, and this course is very
effective at preparing you to be flexible and efficient, rather than
tied into a “right” way of doing things. In real life, effective rescues
are ones that work, not ones that are done according to a training
manual.
In order to qualify as a rescue diver, you must hold a First Aid
qualification. This can be the Emergency First Response (see below) or
another comparable course. This must have been completed, or refresher
training completed, within two years. We also recommend that the DAN
Oxygen providers course (again see below) is completed, and normally we
incorporate this into the Rescue Diver.
